Jessica Wu, MD, a board-certified dermatologist in Los Angeles who specializes in medical and cosmetic dermatology, says acne, blackheads, and oily skin top the list of teenage skin problems. But you can keep your skin safe and radiant by following her skin advice.

While you and your friends go through puberty together, your skin is likely to look and sound a little different from your BFF’s. That means it does not work for you for the skin tip that works for her. Fortunately, to keep your skin clean, you can easily find the correct skin advice to choose from.

Carefully cleanse

You would probably do better with a foaming or gel cleanser for regular skincare if your skin is oily. Cleanse once a day or twice if your skin gets really greasy or dirty all day long. Wu states, “It is good to first remove eye makeup, then scrub with your fingertips and a gel or foaming cleanser”  Wash your face (if you can) before you work out if you play sports or work hard in PE class. She says at least; bring your facial tissues to blot your skin. Try a milky cleanser and moisturizer for teens that have dry rather than oily skin.

Until bed, wash off the makeup

If your best friend can sleep and look amazing with her makeup on it’s not a great idea. If you’re just too tired to tie your hair back, take off makeup, and wash your face, at least takeoff makeup, dirt, and oil with a pre-moistened cleaning wipe,” Wu says.” You may have an acne outbreak or develop a bumpy rash called perioral or periocular dermatitis if you make a daily habit of sleeping in make-up.

Oil Control

Without being rough on your skin, you want to keep the shine down. There is a simple three-step method for oil management, according to Wu:

  1. Use a salicylic acid cleanser,
  2. Always Use an oil-free primer
  3. Use specialized clothes or tissues to blot oil during the day.


Just once or twice a week should you exfoliate, using a reasonably gentle product. Don’t scrub and don’t over-exfoliate (it won’t help with acne or blackheads).

Get the acne items that are right

Try this method if you have any breakouts: wash your face, use a toner, and then add a medicated acne gel.

Do not share your make-up

Keep your hands clean

Consider that your hair product might be to blame if you find that your acne breakouts cluster around your hairline or areas where your hair sometimes brushes your face. Make a move to spray items that are less likely to cause breakouts,” according to Wu.

Avoid tanning beds

With a self-tanner, get a good bronze glow. Later, tanning beds and sun tanning will set you up for early wrinkles and an increased risk of skin cancer.

Avoid the toothpaste and the stories of other old ladies.
