Henrik Ibsen, the major 19th century Norwegian playwright, theatre director, and poet, who is often  referred to as “the father of realism” and regarded as one of the founders of Modernism in theatre was born on 20th of March 1828.

To celebrate his birthday a new movie version of his work Hedda Gabler had its international release on the same date.

The story of Hedda Gabler, Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen’s play, first published in 1890 and first performed in Germany in 1891, is produced in this new version by the young British film-maker, Matthew John, and was the first film that opened the Henrik Ibsen Festival in Oslo, October 2016.
