“Alessandro Michele Debuts New Gucci Collection” Consort News March 2, 2015 Fashion, Featured News “Alessandro Michele Debuts New Gucci Collection” by Jennifer Niejadlik Models sashed along the catwalks during Milan Fashion Week the end of February. One show that stood out is the ever luxurious Gucci. Alessandro Michele made his debut as sole Creative Director at Gucci with the women’s Fall/Winer 2015/2016 collection. Michele is no stranger to Gucci, he has worked within the company for more than 13 years. He replaced Frida Gianni who left her reign earlier than expected. Michele’s fresh looks of the luxury brand include elegance with influence in romance mixed with an urban city style. Michele put his signature on the new collection with a pleated chiffon floral dress with a built-in cape, crinkled leather dresses in red and peacock blue and military-style coats with fur trim that had an antique vintage feel to them. Leisure suits looked like they were borrowed from the boys so to speak with jackets and trousers that are a bit oversized. A red dress with pleated tiers was paired with flats for the perfect day to evening dress. Birds were also part of the look on some of the clothing ranging from a large bird motif on a dress, and on a below the knee skirt to a bird off center on a sweater. It is always about shoes, shoes, shoes! Fantasy style footwear included whimsical furry slippers that are more fitting for either a Hobbit, Nome, or other mystical character rather than real life wear. Chunky rimmed eyeglasses complemented the looks. Michele incorporated Gucci’s famous interlocking GG logo on a belt worn by a few of the models at the beginning and end of the show. If there is one word to describe Gucci’s new collection I would say it is: poetic.
