The Harlem-born rapper ASAP Rocky is a rising style star. He learned how to rap and adopted his French braids hairdo from his older brother who was killed when ASAP was 13 years old and who’s death inspired him to take rapping seriously. It was after his single “Peso” came out in 2011 that the young artist started performing opening acts alongside Kendrick Lamar, later on performing at festivals and then took what seemed to be a quick leap from aspiring rapper to one of the most-followed rapper, record producer, director, actor and model. His third album is to be realised this year and is one of the most anticipated albums of the year.

The artist explained in several interviews for magazines such as Complex and W why he started to get involved in the fashion industry and started collaborating with brands. It was because he felt like celebrities influence fashion in a way that they ruined it for him. The 28 year old felt that he has a duty to the kids today to bring back the ‘90s hip-hop inspired, vintage clothing. He is determined to make a change but admits that he would never want to be a designer and that he just has “good taste” which makes him more of a “tastemaker”.  His collaboration with Guess couldn’t have come at a better time than today’s fashion culture as we have noticed is one of collaborations – Kenzo for H&M, Beyoncé for Topshop, Rihanna for Puma and the list could go on.

With his capsule collection for Guess Originals the fashion fanatic is bringing back denim basics such as the denim bomber jackets worn with striped tees and washed out cropped tops in a collection which he describes as edgy but contemporary.

But his new collection with Guess is far from being the only fashion project in which ASAP Rocky is involved. He has been chosen to be the face of Dior Homme for the second time. In the Spring Summer 2017 collection campaign the braided up artist is rocking long, extended coats, floral print trousers, bottom-up shirts, multiple-patched jackets and boots.

ASAP Rocky showed his “jiggy” fashion sense in his collaboration with J.W Andersan as well (JWA AWGE) for which he created zip-up jumpers, teddy fur jackets, faux fur ones, track pants and knitted materials in original colour ways and silhouettes.

With over 5.4 million followers, his Instagram looks like a personal mood board and it’s filled with Polaroids, pictures from the life on the road and predominately outfit shots.

From moving from one homeless shelter to another and selling crack in the Bronx, ASAP Rocky became one of the brightest young stars – now isn’t that inspiring?
