Rihanna – Humanitarian Queen

Singer, songwriter and actress, at the age of 29, Rihanna was named Humanitarian of the Year by Harvard University and she will receive her award on the 28^th of February, proving that she does not only slay on stage but off stage as well.

Since 2007 when her lead single “Umbrella” became an international breakthrough for her career and brought her, her first Grammy Award, Rihanna sold over 200 million worth records worldwide and is one of the best-selling artists of all time. She already received the MTV Lifetime achievement award but this did not stop her to go further.

The Barbadian singer did not forget her roots and is determined to give back to her community. She charitably set up a state-of-art centre for oncology and nuclear medicine for cancer screening at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Bridgetown, Barbados – as a program part of Clara and Lionel Foundation. Additionally she created a college scholarship fund to help Caribbean students attending college in the U.S. Together with Global Citizen she helps educating kids in more than 60 developing countries giving access to girls and those affected by the lack of education.

It wasn’t for nothing when Forbes ranked Rihanna as the fourth most powerful celebrity back in 2012 as her careers goes way beyond music. Besides of collaborating with several major fashion brands such as Dior and Puma, Rihanna has always been doing a lot more behind the scenes. In 2006 she created her Believe Foundation aiming to help terminally ill children, in 2007 she helped to raise awareness and combat HIV/AIDS together with Cartier and in 2008 she was still fighting for the same cause together with H&M. It was in 2012 when she founded the Clara Lionel Foundation in honour of her grandparents. The charity holds an annual charity fundraiser event – the Diamond Ball which raised $3 million in 2015.
