Alicia Keys Consort News March 3, 2017 Music As you might have already noticed, American singer, songwriter, pianist and actress Alicia Keys stopped wearing make-up last summer and she is absolutely killing it. On stage and off stage the artist decided to empower herself and to inspire others by making a major change to her look. Writing on Lenny Letter, Alicia explained her reasons for making this decision saying that she would be worried every time she used to leave the house if people want a picture with her and if it ends up on social media without her having her make-up on point. She opened up about how empowered and free she felt breaking down walls she has been building over the years and how she promised herself to be herself. Alicia finished by saying, ‘I don’t want to cover up anymore. Not my face, not my mind, not my soul, not my thoughts, not my dreams, not my struggles, not my emotional growth. Nothing.’ Source: eonline.com It was her first make-up free photo-shoot that even if it seemed uncomfortable at the beginning empowered her and gave her the confidence to feel good in her own skin. After that the New York Times bestselling author went on and walked the red carpet make-up free in August 2016 at the MTV Video Music Awards, at the BET Awards and she was make-up free even on The Voice during the live TV shows, where even men choose to wear makeup sometimes. She also appeared on the cover of the September issue of Ebony and the cover of Grazia make-up free. Source: stylefrizz.com When interviewed about the secrets to such a flawless skin without make-up, Dotti, Alicia’s make-up artists revealed a few secrets on keeping the skin glowing and healthy-looking. She shared a few tips with Cosmopolitan revealing that she would use ice to tighten the skin and bring blood to the surface, cucumber to draw the heat out of the skin and loads of oils. She also reminded up that the celebrity did not give up skin care products; it is just make-up that she chooses not to wear. Her decision is however not a life-long one and the singer said she is not anti-makeup. She loves her make-up products and sometimes chooses to wear a tiny bit of lip-gloss or powder. She does not try to go against make-up but rather to show that it is ok not to wear any. Source: instyle.com When haters started to criticize her decision, she explained that this is exactly how she always felt. Being in the public eye, the 15-time Grammy Award winner was always subject to scrutiny and criticism which affected her career. Even if this movement started as a personal preference, she hoped for a revolution to be born and for women not to feel ashamed anymore if they choose not to wear any make-up. Her movement was supported by quite a few celebrities who went on and shared make-up free selfies on their social media channels. So why not forget the constant stereotyping and follow the artists’ example and embrace our natural beauty rather than covering it to please others. Article by: Andreea Sabau.
