Was a great pleasure to interview Guy Gulotta, born and raised New Yorker/ interior designer and model, who gave us a glimpse into his life, projects and ambitions?

– What made you first become interested in modeling?
Modeling was always something I wanted to do, but I didn’t think it was something that I could do. As a young teen I never had confidence and was an extremely shy. Over these last 10 years I have had many struggles with relationships, my sexuality, and health. I realized life is too short to not go after a dream. What is the worst that can happen? I did this to prove to myself that I could do anything I put my mind to. Besides modelling, I also work for a Swedish Rug Design Company on large commercial and residential projects, which I love.

– If a young girl/boy wanted to be a model what would your advice for them be?
My advice would be to have confidence in yourself. Everyone is unique and that is what makes everyone beautiful. I think too many young girls/boys look at today’s models and get discouraged. I know I did. Realize that most images are retouched and thousands of images are taken to get the perfect shot.

– What has been your favorite photo-shoot to date?
It would be hard to pick just one photo-shoot to be my favorite. The two photo shoots that stand out to me the most are one of my first shoots with Thomas Synnamon and my most recent shoot with Kelly Grider. My shoot with Thomas was so exciting, nerve racking, and new. He was an amazing photographer to work with and he really taught me so much that has helped me on every shoot since. My shoot with Kelly was truly inspiring and different than any shoot I have every been on. He used cameras that were over 100 years old, for which he has real passion. Since it was shot on film and not digitally, you really had to focus on perfecting each shot because you do not get to continually retake. Something about being behind an old camera was magical.

– Out of all your character traits, which do you think lends itself to modelling the most?
I would say the trait that lends itself to modelling is my “go with the flow” personality. I will always try new things, have fun, and take risks. I love when a photographer comes to me asking if I would be willing to try something they have never tried or seen before. Even if it doesn’t come out as expected, it was new and a journey we took together.

– Your dream photographer that you would want to work with?
I have so many photographers that I would be so honored to work with, but I would have to say Annie Leibovitz would be on the top of my list. I have admired her work for so many years.

– Your dream fashion designer that you would want to model for?
A fashion designer that I would love to model for is Calvin Klein. I think it is number one on my list because it is a brand that I was always surrounded by when I was a young kid. I remember looking at Mark Wahlberg’s Calvin Klein Ad from 1992 hoping I would have the chance to do this one day. Also, their new same sex ad is pretty spectacular!

– What has been the highlight moment of this year?

I would love to say that my highlight moment of the year so far had to do with my modelling, but the truth is I got engaged and I am getting married in less than a month to my best friend.

– If you could design your own photo-shoot, what would it be?
If I could design my own photo-shoot, it would revolve around creating awareness for men’s health using the beauty of the male form. It is something that is extremely important to me and I would love to bring all different groups of men together to help me spread the word. I would want it to capture your attention in a similar way to Adam Levine’s shoot for prostate and testicular cancer, but include more of a diverse group of men instead of a sole individual while also making it more of a work of art than just a photo.

– Are there any other projects that you are excited about at the moment?
The most important project that I am working on is to help raise money and awareness for men’s health. I have had some health challenges in the past few years and think it is so important to use my experiences to help others. I am active in Movember, a men’s health charity, which you can learn more about by clicking on the link below.
